safety. he a flight risk. it took multiple agencies including the u.s. marshals to find him in oakland and bring him back here to san francisco. >> dan: an investigation is now underway into a fiery crash that killed a big rig driver and snarled the morning commute. chp says the big rig collided with a pickup truck on highway 37 at highway 29 in vallejo about 6:40 this morning. it landed on a grassy area below and burst into flames. they pulled the driver from the wreckage but sadly he died later at the hospital. he is identified as 43-year-old william ballard of roseville. the driver of the pickup was not hurt. >> was we show you the damage of a school bus suffered as it was rear-ended by a big rig. there was only one student aboard at the time. neither were hurt. it did shut down the highway for a time so tow trucks could move both of these oversized vehicles out of way. >> the pilot of the it on tank they're smashed into the bay bridge has passed his drug test. it hit the protective bumperer on the bridge at a time of low visibility. they may adopt a new safety plan for the bridge a

, cayman died at the oakland zoo shortly after it was seized in a potted busted. the owner was arrested on suspicion of possessing marijuana for sale. he could face other charges including possession after an exotic animal without a permit. they provided this photo of a 34 pounds of marijuana they say they found at the grow house. it is valued more than a hundred thousand dollars. >> a grandmother has been arrested accused of stealing $400,000 from the santa clara county nonprofit where she worked. 62-year-old woman took hundreds of documents housing for independent people to pay for unneeded repairs for her oakland home. the d.a.'s office she filed fake claims for repairs and then pocketed that money. >> teacher credited with diffuse ago school shooting in kern county. it happened in taft. a 16-year-old was armed with a shotgun, he shot one student and fired one other shot. the student was hit is hospitalized in critical condition. the quick acting teacher got the other students out the backdoor and he another staff member convinced the shooter to put down the gun. >> the best i can te

. ktvu tara moriarty is at the scene of police activity. it's happening in oakland. what is going on out there? >> reporter: we're not going to say exactly where we are. this operation is still under way. oakland police are doing a raid on this block you see behind me. there are emergency personnel out here. this is one of many raids going on this morning. we are told this operation one of the riskiest. these are alleged gang members and that weapons, drugs that sort of thing is being confiscated right now. the helicopter has been above us since before 5:00 this morning. that is when swat teams moved in and told the people inside of this home to get out. neighbors did report hearing a loud boom. we are not sure if that is a door being kicked in or flash grenades were being used. there is a tactical unit at the top of the street along with an ambulance. oakland police remaining tight lipped who these people are. once the raid is over and the evidence has been seized we'll be learning more about this operation. this is one of the biggest raids happening in the city of oakland. live from oa

there and still below freezing as well in napa. oakland right now low 40s. concord coming in slightly above freezing at 35. the national weather service kept the freeze warnings and frost advisories in effect for much of the bay area. it's going to be cold inland, up in the north bay and in the east bay interior valleys and frost advisories right around the bay. so temperatures could reach into the low 20s or upper 20s to low 30s. still could continue to dip closer to sunrise and if the winds continue to die down. forecasted highs by this afternoon we are expected to see upper 40s to low 50s once again struggling to get into the 50-degree reading mark. otherwise, over the next several days we have another cold morning on tap for tomorrow. in fact, the frost advisories have already been posted for tomorrow morning. and then sunday a ridge of high pressure builds. we have a slight warming trend beginning for next week. and plenty of sunshine and clear skies. that is a check of your weather headlines. for more on your traffic, here gianna. >> slight warmin

that if they are not ready to approve the budget there will take the time, necessary. in oakland, alecia reed, kron 4. >> new information tonight about damage to the bay bridge after that tanker hit it monday. this is aerial video from sky 7-h-d. and new tonight. we have learned the bar pilot that was navigating the ship at the time has tested *negative for drugs or alcohol. today we learned the damage to the base of the tower on the bridge suffered two to three million dollars in damage. and these are new pictures. you can see the worst of it right here on the fender.this is on the western span closest to treasure island. these fenders here are made of wood and plastic. you can see the damage pretty clearly. the wood is smashed in.the black plastic was pushed down into the bay. and the metal support beans and bolts were compromised. also pieces of wood splintered.this is the base of the bridge tower. the oil tanker the overseas reymar also was damaged. scrape marks and a piece of wood. officials say the fender on the tower that was hit by "did exactly what it was supposed to do" in protecting the bridge. th

in 800 mega hurtz and not what oakland had but the simulcast radios and departments didn't want toking on the same but we put them on it and you're probably in the next genraition of those radios right now and by the way -- there was a man here who preceded the mayor. it was then called the chief administrative officer and rudy rothenberg and incredible civil servant and i worked with him on this building. in fact i drew this building. i had architecture work as a midship man and if i find it i'm going to give it to you. we also as a result of that we subsumed the department of public health ambulance into the fire department and should have been done years ago and we centralized 911 upstairs. it was a great ride. in addition to the people i mentioned there were scores of others that helped me to succeed kronenberg was one of these people to help me when the political system was going on and i am particularly indebted to the usual suspects, the san francisco suspects who come forward when you have problems and help you to fix them, and i will end with that because they make a dif

a probation check and handed over to the oakland zoo. staff members at animals critically ill and died in the honor is now facing drug charges. >> police have arrested a suspect but almost $420,000 of marijuana stored in a container and sausalito. police were tipped off to the suspect as activities through an anonymous caller on the december 29th. the caller told police that the suspect's name which was nicholas papas and the marijuana was located at the marin is set up self storage. when police arrived and that on his car and container full of marijuana and also found cocaine. he faces controlled substance and marijuana cultivation charges and police they did not suspect it sold any of the marijuana. 22 year-old dexter oliver it as did not say much in the san francisco court room other than indicating he does not have the money for an attorney. he has been charged with 11 felonies including attempted murder, assault and torture. he is accused of failing to win battles with gasoline and throwing it on his girlfriend after a fight over close at a laundromat. bail is set for $10 million.
